In kendo tournaments, the role of a referee is an important responsibility—requiring careful attention to the flow of the match and a commitment to fairness.

I designed this referee flag bag with the hope that, in the simple act of taking out the flags, the user’s mind naturally settles, gently shifting into a calm focus toward the task of refereeing itself. This piece is created with that quiet sense of presence in mind.

Time and Memory Within Kimono

Each piece is produced in limited quantities from a single kimono.

Some kimono fabrics were once worn with great care, while others were preserved without ever being worn. All of them have spent long years in quiet rest, continuing to hold the life of the material even after their original role had ended.

The fabrics used for the main body are carefully selected in Japan.

About the Craftsmanship

This product begins with the careful unpicking of each kimono, stitch by stitch, entirely by hand.

In a quiet process of working closely with the fabric, each piece is returned to cloth and given new life in a new form.

Rather than preserving the past as it is, this process of reconnecting the material into a new role is what gives this referee flag bag its true value.

Durable and Practical Design

Not only beautiful in appearance but also designed for practical use.

The inner lining is made from 10oz canvas (equivalent to No.8 cotton canvas), providing durability even with repeated use.

The bottom section is reinforced with high-durability synthetic leather for long-lasting performance.

This size is designed to fit referee flags specified in the All Japan Kendo Federation’s official match and refereeing regulations.
